  • In “The river”, I reflect on the unstoppable flow of human existence, transforming the river metaphor into a dense, restless visual representation. The work shows a river made of bodies: a human current, awkward, disorderly, relentless. At the center, a single subject emerges, who, though looking at the viewer, offers no resistance: resigned to being carried away by the current.

This gaze, direct and passive, speaks of a tension between identity and the masses, between will and inertia. The river does not ask: it takes. It drags along experiences, people, words spoken, opportunities missed, and actions taken—everything flows and blurs into the perpetual movement of time and society.

“The river” is a work about the collective destiny that overwhelms the individual, about the accumulation of encounters and choices. I paint a humanity swept away by itself, where the individual remains recognizable only for an instant, before being absorbed into the current.

How much do we truly decide about our path? And how much, instead, are we only part of a greater course, already traced, which we learn too soon to recognize but too late to deviate from?

“The river” is both a poetic surrender to the chaos of living and a precise observation of the fragility of personal autonomy within the blind rhythm of the multitude.
